The new C-segment vehicle is powered by a 1.6-liter engine upgraded in order to meet Euro 3 and Euro 4 emission standards. The 16-valve version is capable of 90 bhp - enabling a max speed of 185 kph.
Several competitors, including Opel Corsa B, Toyota Starlet and Fiat Bravo were studied before the design was signed off. That is why the car has a co-efficient of 0,347-0,378 depending on body style. There are 5-door hatch, sedan and estate versions available.
With the Kalina AvtoVAZ hopes to offer a more modern car in its line-up. They may bring the car to the EuroNCAP crash test. A rigorous testing programme was carried out to make sure the quality is up to scratch.
A dedicated assembly line was set up to produce the Kalina. At full capacity 220,000 cars per year should be produced. During 2005 sales on various export markets, including selected Western European countries will commence.
