India said that the Tavera's engine was tuned more for
fuel efficiency than performance and they weren't joking.
The Tavera gave the best overall figure, beating even
the Qualis and that's saying a lot. In the city, the
Tavera returned 10.6kpl to the Qualis's 10.2, the Scorpio
some way down giving 9.5kpl for the same gruelling city
cycle.
Stop-start conditions take their toll on the heavy Scorpio
but on the highway, under cruising conditions, the results
are reverse. The tall gearing and punchy mid-range and
top end don't make the engine work too hard and the
Scorpio gives a class-topping 13.8kpl with the Qualis
and Tavera tied on 13.7kpl.
