Has the potential but yet needs more development.
The Scorpio is a good effort from Mahindra and it shows up well. But
given further development and attention to detail it can very well
be a great vehicle. Mahindra will also need to focus on better build
quality and aggregates for there was no reason for the diesel fuel
filter on our test car to have been fitted wrongly, leaking fuel and
depressurising the system. Also the more crucial issues of handling,
steering and brakes need to be addressed because the vehicle has tremendous
performance on tap and we haven’t even got to the Renault petrol-engined
version (Mahindra says that it hasn’t yet been validated for
sale). Given the fact that it needed a contemporary vehicle as of
yesterday, the Scorpio is a harbinger of hope for Mahindra & Mahindra.
Let’s hope for its sake that the package is the one everyone
will get to like because as the Scorpio’s catchline says nothing
else will do. How very apt!
