"Did
you think estates were boring tin cans? Bertrand D?souza beg to
differ after a weekend of carving corners in Skoda?s new Octavia
Combi."
Indian
motorways throw up a curious mix of vehicles. It is hard to fathom
why some vehicles do well despite having a limited purpose while
others that serve great purposes do not. Two cases in point: automatics
and estates. Despite persistent efforts by manufacturers neither
section has been able to truly make an impact in the market. There
has been no dearth of manufacturers trying to push the estate market
starting with Tata way back in the early 90s when they first came
out with the Tata Estate. Since then with the automobile boom the
nation has seen quite a few estates from various manufacturers come
and go. So it does come as quite a surprise when Skoda Auto who
have been prudent with their choice of vehicles decided to enter
the market with both petrol and diesel variants of the Octavia Combi.
This is motivated by no other interest than to cater to the whims
of a few potential customers and to expand a product range that
is already one of the widest in the country for a single model.
OVERDRIVE was invited for an exclusive test drive of the Combi RS
and an L&K diesel variant.
