152PS
turbo-charged petrol rocket.
Skoda
Octavia vRS owners will be familiar with the five-valve turbo-charged
four-pot in the TT; after all this is an engine designed and developed
by Audi and used in other Volkswagen group cars including the Octavia
vRS. And what an engine it is!
We?ve raved about this engine when we road tested the vRS and a year
on it continues to blow us away. In the TT the 1.8-litre engine pumps
out 152PS of power at 5700rpm and 210Nm of torque all the way from
1750 right up to 4600rpm. Motronic ME 7.5 electronic sequential injection
handles fuelling duties on the twin cam all-aluminium engine.
Internationally
this engine is the base unit available on the TT with higher spec
versions getting twin intercoolers (unlike the single intercooler
on this engine) that develops 180PS of power. However that unit requires
98 octane petrol which still isn?t available in the country.
The gear ratios are also identical to the Octavia vRS though the altered
final drive and increased wheel diameter (17-inch to the RS?s 16-inchers)
results in a shorter overall gearing and thus better engine flexibility. |
