The
TT is from the Volkswagen group era where platform and part-sharing
were driving mantras. The TT was thus underpinned on the humble VW-group
front-wheel-drive Golf/Audi A3/Skoda Octavia platform to keep development
costs within check. Needless to say tremendous detail alterations
were made in keeping with the sporty focus of the TT and though the
basic MacPherson struts are retained the TT gets forged lower control
arms, guide joints with larger diameter journals and unique geometry.
The rear suspension uses a torsion crank with anti-roll bars at both
ends.
Internationally the TT is also available with full-time four-wheel-drive,
the quattro drivetrain employing an electro-hydraulic torque distribution
system that reacts to slip in any given wheel to redirect engine torque
via a multi-plate clutch unit between the prop shaft and rear axle.
This four-wheel-drive version however hasn?t been homologated for
India though your local Audi dealer will be able to get you one as
a direct import.
The TT gets four-wheel disc brakes, 312mm up front and 256mm at the
rear. Anti-lock brakes as well as ESP (electronic stability program)
and EBD (electronic brake force distribution) are standard while additional
safety features include front and side airbags. For India the cars
will be fitted with 17-inch six-spoke wheels running on 225/45 Pirelli
P6000 rubber.
