Mercedes-Benz
says it has put everything it knows into its all-new luxury car which
is a quantum change from the model it replaces.
Within the short span of seven years since Mercedes-Benz set up shop
in India,
the company has launched three generations of the E-class. It's been
a period of catching up for the German car maker which, after the
folly of launching the discontinued W124 in 1995, is now firmly committed
to giving the latest and best products in its portfolio.
The new E-class or W211 replaces the W210, which sold a staggering
1.4 million units worldwide. The new W211 has been designed with similar
goals in mind. For Mercedes, the E-class simply must be the best car
in the world in this luxury class and has spared no effort in taking
it to the top. Mercedes doesn't fork out 1.2 billion pounds sterling
(Rs 9,000 crore) on the development of a car that it feels will be
inferior in any way to its rivals. Those rivals, notably BMW, Audi
and Jaguar, aren't in India yet but Merc customers can look forward
to a car that is distinctly superior to the one it replaced. And there's
that three-pointed star, the one that says a million things about
who you are without uttering a single word. |
