There
is not much to choose from between these two cars; both of them are
pretty competent machines, with advantages and negatives. At best
I can say that this is a very honourable draw and on this count alone
the Indica V2 seems to have wrapped up the game in its favour. The
price advantage of the Indica will be a clincher for many buyers -
but that’s not why I said it could walk the talk and see off
Fiat’s present Sachin-mania induced sales blitzkrieg. The fact
that the Indica V2 has caught up with the Palio in most respects and
bested it in terms of engine performance and refinement, fuel efficiency
(be it by the scantest of margins) etc, means that Fiat just cannot
take the Indian manufactured car as anything but a threat. They talk
about Tata Engineering not having done too well with petrol engines.
The new Indica V2 redresses this anomaly and will find buyers who
saw the practicality and the space benefit proposition of the Indica
but were loathe to buy it till it was debugged.
The new Indica V2 is a substantially improved car. Tata Engineering
is bringing the Indica closer and closer to perfection. Fiat on its
part has a good car in the Palio. It will now need better thought
and trim to do what Telco has done on the Indica to fight the battle
for the customers’ minds.
Forza Fiat! Attaboy Tata!
