There
is again not much to distinguish the two cars in this department and
they are both within spitting distance of each other when it comes
to stretching the fuel rupee. However, contrary to what you might
think going by previous tests, the Indica delivered the better fuel
consumption figures, marginal though they may be. Aspi does all our
performance testing and fuel efficiency runs and in his hands the
Indica came up with a 9.0kmpl average in the in-town test as against
the 8.8kmpl with the Palio. There is hardly a cigarette foil between
the two, a situation much the same for the fuel figures on the highway
run: 18.9 for the Indica versus 18.5kmpl for the Palio. We drove the
cars for something in the region of 700km plus and both cars delivered
such figures consistently.
But the Palio does beat the Indica in one aspect and that is in having
a larger fuel tank - 47 litres as against the 37-litre tank in the
Indica. It does not need a genius to work out that the Palio comes
out with a greater operating range making it better suited to going
the extra few miles on a tankful.
