Performance and Efficiency IN BLACK
& WHITE
Numbers never lie, they say. And all it needs is for you to
turn to the last page of this road test to discover that this Accent
is power-packed and torque-laden; quicker and faster than any of its
other siblings.
That it is powered by a new generation diesel and is also one of the
most fuel efficient cars makes for one of the most interesting road
tests, discovers Yogendra Pratap.
The world is surely and steadily moving towards the newer generation
of direct injection diesels, be it unit-injected or common-railed.
Mercedes-Benz had already introduced the common rail engine in India
a few years back but then they are the technology leaders worldwide
and augur no comparisons. So, it was a matter of time before one of
the other car manufacturers in India took up the challenge and introduced
the engine in a car that could be available to a much larger segment
of the car-buying populace. As it has done on a number of occasions
before, Hyundai India was brave enough to respond to the challenge
and pioneer the use of a new technology in India by introducing the
Accent powered by one of Hyundai’s newly developed turbocharged
and inter-cooled common rail direct injection (CRDi) engines. OVERDRIVE
drove the car from Mumbai to Goa, and from Pune to the Ajanta Caves
along with numerous trips to and from Mumbai to Pune plus the mandatory
dash to the VRDE in Ahmednagar besides logging on astounding in-city
mileage to bring you this road test.
