While
theAlto remained the best-seller during September 2004, sales of the 800
dropped off, possibly due to more first-time buyers going straight for
a B-segment car like the Hyundai Santro or Tata Indica, both of which
have sold strongly during the month.
The recently-launched Hyundai Getz has also got off to a strong start
with sales of 2043 units - however with imminent competition from the
Ford Fusion and later the Suzuki Swift, it will be interesting to see
whether the Getz can hold its own in the upper B segment.
The battle in the entry-D segment has become more intense with the Chevrolet
Optra edging into the leadership position with sales of 1062 units with
the Toyota Corolla close on its heels with sales of 1033 units.
Honda City sales have increased to a high of almost 3000 units during
September 2004, due to the increased supply of cars from the company.
The company is planning to achieve a daily production figure of 150 cars
by January 2005 as compared to the current 132. It was just 106 units
a few months ago.
