Tyre
Pressures Off-Road
Generally speaking it is possible to maintain normal tyre
pressures for most types of off-road driving. However in certain
extreme low-traction situations it can be beneficial to lower
pressures slightly to improve grip although this depends on
the surface being traversed.
Mud:
In really muddy conditions lower the pressure to increase
the tyre footprint size and flotation ability.
Snow:
In snow maintain pressures on road. Pressures may be reduced
in severe off-road situations to aid traction.
Rock:
Maintain tyre pressures. Reduced pressures increase the
risk of tyre damage by pinching or cutting.
Sand:
It is possible to lower pressures in loose sand to aid traction
Water:
Maintain pressures as it is not possible to see what the
tyre may strike under water.
Do not use tyre pressures under 16psi. Reinflate the tyre
as soon as you return to tarmac.
