Parizad fell for the sporty and stylish looks of the Honda City.
‘THE
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TAKES AWAY THE STRESS FROM MY HECTIC LIFE.’
She’s
the girl who lights up the screen with her million- watt smile. Not only
is she able to dexterously juggle jobs that involve hosting a male-dominated
racing show, to playing compere to some of the best talents showcasing
their humour skills on telly, but she’s equally at ease sporting
a riding jacket as she is carrying off designer gowns.
She’s none other than Parizad Kolah-Marshall. And yes, she insisted
on the double-barrel surname.
She kickstarted her career with a TV show, Speed that was aired on Ten
Sports where she rubbed shoulders with the likes of Narain Karthikeyan
and Vicky Chandok on the race track. Now, you would know her as the affable
compere on Star One’s The Great Indian Laughter Challenge endearing
herself to millions of viewers across the country with her twin dimples,
where she shares the stage with co-hosts Shekhar Suman and Navjot Singh
Sidhu.
Surely, hers has been quite an exciting journey where roughing it out
on the race track and shooting in cosy air-conditioned studios have all
been part of playing the hosting game.
Television, live shows and films brought popularity and fame and she thought
she was ready for her personal car. Not one to rate her success with her
car, she wanted one that could be a combination of style and practicality.
She opted for the Honda City after carefully surveying the car market
and going through various auto magazines. While she did consider the Hyundai
Accent at one point, it was the stylish Honda City that she had long admired
that won in the end.
The Honda City besides having “great interiors”, has a very
responsive engine, “is easy to park” and stands tall as compared
to other cars which also “makes for better visibility”. The
fact that the Honda City is spacious and has a sporty look and feel to
it doubles her driving pleasure, she says.
Being a conscientious car owner, Parizad is very particular about everything
in the car. She even makes sure that her insurance, PUC, and ownership
papers are intact because having a skirmish with traffic cops for want
of documents can get unpleasant and quite distressing. Besides, she personally
checks on the tool kit and the spare tyre to ensure that they are in good
condition.
Driving down to Pune, where Parizad and her husband have another home,
via the Expressway, is fun, she says. Taking breaks in Lonavala to stop
and admire the scenic beauty of the little hill-station located barely
90km from Mumbai is something she and her husband do on a regular basis.
However, being a city pigeon and having lived in the island city all her
life, she cannot get enough of the most scenic drive that the city offers
— the Queen’s Necklace or Marine Drive, as it is called. She
loves driving down this stretch and it also happens to be her favourite
haunt for long drives or when she’s out with friends.
Parizad sure knows her car. She tells us how she loves her automatic transmission
as it “takes away the stress of pressing the clutch pedal and frequently
applying the brake” from her hectic life.
