Whether
the new generation 'Premium' Petrol’s
I have used
all the 3-Brands on my 33-month/55 kkm old Santro/Mpfi in DLH and have
had no problems. In fact, atleast my other 11-yr/75 kkm old M800 definitely
feels more perky with them and I'd attribute this to their higher Octane
part to it. But then, from day one both have been run on PA's like System-G.
It's true that with these new premium fuels, you don't have to use PA's
also.
Another word of caution here. If you have not been using any PA's so far
and intend start using the new generation Petrol’s now, start with
a full tank afresh – as above in the case of PA’s. Such Fuel
Pumps can cost ~ Rs: 5 k or so Zens/Esteems and go upto Rs: 18k for a
Honda-City !
The trouble with our regular Petrol is that it's hardly ever 87 Octane
– thanks to the rampant adulteration and the new breed promises
to be no better - though it may be atleast 87 O/R. Detergent 'premixed'
Gasoline is nothing new and has been around in the West for as long as
I can remember. But over there no body cheats the way they do it here
and next to such Dispensers, there's a 'Warning' that this Gasoline contains
'Detergents' ! Our PSU Oil Co's have not advertised any such 'Warnings'
– say like Cigarettes – and on the other hand have made a
big USP of it.
Besides, the 3-Oil Co's have failed to give it a different PDS Kerosene
like colour. So there's no guarantee that the unscrupulous Retailers won't
make an extra fast buck by dishing out the usual trash in its guise. And
by the time one realised this, the damage to one's engine would have been
done.
Therefore, I personally feel more secure using the old stuff with my own
Additives - as it nearly costs the same but atleast I know for sure that
I've got the detergent in it !
Engine Oil Additives.
These are often 'PTFE' based Formulations - the former being one of the
most 'slippery' substances known to mankind.
Their benefits are debatable, as in some instances they are known to have
interfered with free-flow of the main Lubricant within the various intricate
'arteries' of an engine including the main Oil Filter, particularly by
jamming the free movement of the Rings around their Pistons. As such,
they do not find favour with the OEMs, unlike the Petrol Additives as
above.
Not withstanding, their use on a new engine in recommended dosage/interval
AFTER it has fully run-in, say > 3000 kms, has its advantages - of
prolonging an Engine Life. Atleast that's what has been my personal experience.
On the otherhand, their use in Gearboxes is favorable outright, as they
are by and large 'Splash' Lubricated and any possibilities of 'Arterial
Blocks' are non-existent over there.
