2) One 3-litre can
of good SG grade Engine Oil, MGP/EQVT Oil Filter, Petrol Filter, Air Filter
& 2-litres of good SAE 90/Hypoid gear oil.
3) One set of genuine
Distributor ‘Points’ and TWO condensers to suit your OE make
i.e. L/TVS or ND/Japan or if you are unfortunate, PMP (the latter was
a disaster and since discontinued by MUL).
4) One set of OE type
spark plugs. Ensure purchases of all such items from a reliable outlet
only.
5)
One set of ‘Reliable’ Dwell/Tachometer and a good Strobe timing
Light. If you are a car ‘fitness freak’, it’s advisable
to buy these once and for all for yourself. This will set you back by
about Rs:2.5K but is strongly recommended, as I have yet to come across
a Garage with well-calibrated dwell/tachometers. Remember correct
distributor points’ ‘dwell’ setting is the beginning
and end of such an exercise.
6) One good quality
and clearly marked ‘Feeler Gauge’.
7) One good/dial type
tyre pressure gauge.
8) One genuine ‘Radiator
Thermo Valve’ (RTV). This is a vital ingredient, as shown alongside,
considered most dispensable by practically all mechanics and garages.
Nothing could be farther from truth as otherwise, it won’t be an
imported OE fitment even in Factory fitted A/C cars.
It
enables the engine to reach its ‘designed’ working temperature’
(90+/-5*C) within 5-minutes of a start and then maintains it automatically,
regardless of driving or ambient conditions. It is the most mis-understood
piece of equipment in our environment as of today. This may be required
either to be re-instated for a missing one or to replace a faulty one.
