Corolla slides into City and Optra territory.
New Toyota Corolla Executive
Price Rs 8.85 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) On Sale NOW
Toyota
has decided to play the value game with the Corolla by launching a stripped-down
version of the Corolla.
It comes with steel wheel rims in place of the alloys found on the other
variants. Other changes include black gauges replacing the sporty-looking
white ones. The centre console comes in black without a stereo and the
steering is a three-spoke unit, which feels quite flimsy to hold, and
is a step backwards from the usual four-spoke unit. The car comes with
ABS, but there are no airbags.
According
to Toyota, the Corolla Executive is targeted at the huge segment of corporate
customers who were till now shying away from buying the Corolla due to
budget constraints. But it seems that Toyota does not want to take on
the Civic but go a step lower. This variant is aimed squarely at the Optra
as well as the Honda City.
Toyota is also hoping that the Corolla’s price will turn in customers
who might be upset with the fact that the Corolla’s nemesis Civic
comes in only two variants, both of which cost over Rs 11 lakh on-road.
As a special anniversary offer, the Toyota Corolla Executive will be available
for Rs 8.85 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
