Perumbavur 683 541 Ph: 0484 (04859)-243404 The Munnar-Kochi road is NH 49, a splendid one till Thattekkad. The corners are so rally-circuit-like that it's easy to get carried away. Avoid the temptation of overtaking around corners. Local drivers cut it very fine and the driver of the vehicle ahead of you may give you the okay sign even if there is an oncoming vehicle. He may feel confident that you will be able to make it, but you may not - so it's best to avoid overtaking around corners, no matter what the driver ahead signals. If you have a line of vision then move out and overtake, else stick behind. From Thattekkad to Aluva, via Kotamangalam and Perumbavur the roads are very congested. From Aluva it's a broad six-lane highway to Ernakulam (Kochi). |

Lake Palace (Bookings and reception at Aranya Niwas) Rate: Rs 4000 to Rs 6000 This ex-Maharaja's Lodge has six suites. If you decide to pamper yourself, then this is the place to stay. The last boat to the palace leaves the boat jetty at 4pm. However, if you have a guide, it is possible to walk to the palace from the boat jetty in about an hour. It has splendid views all round and all rooms have cable TV. They also arrange fishing. |
