Road conditions: Double-laned NH 4 till Neelamangala after which NH 48 to Hassan is a single-laner but, thanks to its geometry and smooth road surface, is a delight to drive on. The Hassan to Chikmagalur road is narrow but scenic — slow down and enjoy the scenery. Trip set point: Tumkur road junction, Bangalore Pratham Motors Survey #16, Outer Ring Road Bellandur, Bangalore 560 037 Ph: 080-56973029/30/31 Bimal Auto Agency #60/2, Mahadevpura, Whitefield Road, Bangalore 560 048 Ph: 09845375276 (Emergency) 0.0 Take NH 4 towards Tumkur and Pune. 3.1 Crossroads with traffic signals. Continue straight towards Tumkur. Left goes to Mysore.  Note:
You’ll go past a few more crossroads with signal lights — go
straight through all of these.17.3 Road junction. Continue straight. Right fork goes to Neelamangala. 20.2 Crossroads with signal lights. Continue straight on NH 4 towards Tumkur and Pune. Left goes to Tavarekere and right to Neelamangala. 21.3 Crossroads with traffic lights. Turn left onto NH 48 towards Hassan and Mangalore. Straight goes to Tumkur and Pune on NH 4. Note: This road begs you to tear down it but be careful at all times as there are a few tight corners that can catch you by surprise. 39.3 Solur town. Go straight 62.6 Kunigal town. Go straight. 85.1 Fork on road. Continue straight towards Hassan. Right goes to Turuvekere. 93.4 Caution. Road broken and diversion present. 9 98.3 Nagamangala bypass (Belur crossroad) road junction. Bear left for Hassan. 113.3 Mangalore district starts. 117.7 Fork on road. Bear right for Hassan and Mangalore. Left goes to Shravan Belagola. 139.3 Channarayapatna town. Pedestrians and traffic. Practise caution. 140.0 Channarayapatna town police station T-junction. Turn left for Hassan. 145.2 Fork on road. Bear left for Hassan and Mangalore. Right goes to Asikere. 173.0 Road junction. Turn right for Hassan, Belur and Chikmagalur. 174.9 T-junction. Turn right for Hassan. Left goes to Asikere. 177.0 Hassan town. 177.8 Crossroads with signal lights. Continue straight. 177.9 Turn left. 178.2 Traffic lights. Continue straight. Left goes to Garur and Madikere. 180.2 Fork on road. Bear right for Belur and Chikmagalur. Note: This fork has no signboard. So if you think you have missed it, ask for directions. Also, the road now narrows down considerably and sometimes runs on a bund wall. Be careful. 214.4 Belur town main square, T-junction (BPCL pump on the left). Turn right towards Chikmagalur. 
Note: To go to the main temple in Belur, you have to turn left. After 800
metres at the bus stand, there is a fork where you go left. Five hundred
metres ahead is the temple. We suggest you see this temple on your way to
Chikmagalur itself as you can then take the turn-off to Halebid without
returning to Belur town on your way back.227.2 Road junction. Continue straight for Chikmagalur. Right goes to Halebid (18km). Take this road on your return journey. 235.6 T-junction. Turn right for Chikmagalur town and the Taj Garden Retreat. Left goes to a bypass road. 238.9 T-junction. Turn right towards Taj Garden Retreat. Left goes to Chikmagalur town. Ms Formula Motors K M Road, Chikmagalur 577101 Ph: 08262-230370/220369 241.2 Taj Garden Retreat. Chikmagalur Note: On your way back, you can go till Belur and then turn left towards Halebid. After the temple at Halebid, take the road going left when you are facing the temple. This is a better road to Hassan. |

Taj
Garden Retreat
All the rooms and cottages have delightful views. The balconies attached
to the cottages are wonderful to sit out at night, especially when there
is a light drizzle.A.P Nanaiah, a Coorgi and the general manager of the
resort, goes out of his way to ensure that the guests are comfortable.
Ravi, at the activity desk, is a local lad and is immensely knowledgeable
about the region. He has plenty of stories and little tales that will
keep you entertained on your drives around the place.
