Driving Dynamics

What it is:
Driving dynamics describes the characteristics a vehicle exhibits under a range of driving inputs and road conditions.

How it works:
Vehicles react in many different ways, depending on the maneuvers a driver subjects them to and the conditions of the road surface. Dynamics engineers focus on building vehicles that exhibit excellent agility, precision, comfort, and stability under any circumstance. They do this by incorporating into the product development process extensive lab, track, and road testing as well as detailed analysis with the help of computer aided engineering. Agility is the attribute which determines how nimble a vehicle is and how fun it is to drive. Precision refers to the accuracy of a vehicle's steering, handling, and braking. The level of comfort a vehicle offers is based on the amount of shake, harshness, roll, and pitch apparent during operation. Stability in a vehicle gives a driver confidence because it determines how predictable and safe a vehicle is to drive.

Customer benefit:
Vehicles offer superior driving experiences with safety, predictability, stability, and comfort.

Industry status:
The recently introduced Ford Focus, Ka and Puma in Europe have received widespread recognition for great driving dynamics.
