| It
is always better to find a clean, original car even though it means paying
more money. Restoring cars in India is not very easy as there are very
few workshops with the requisite knowledge or expertise to restore vintage
or classic cars and their work can be best described as repair work. This
is one of the most important bits of advice I can give to the potential
classic car owner. Remember this, if nothing else.
The first thing to be considered when buying a car is its condition. Mechanically,
the car should be as original as possible and the body must be original.
Well-maintained and non-restored cars are worth more than badly restored
ones. Always consult a person who has owned or restored such cars when
buying your classic. Research the marque through the Internet or from
catalogues and magazines before embarking on a search.
Some cars have added value because they have been specially coach-built
or are of 'limited edition' bodywork. While factory-listed options can
enhance value, non-original aftermarket accessories actually detract from
the value - all those extra spot lights, horns and brasswork is not going
make the car any more special or qualify for extra points at an event.
