The first step is to assess your own actions when you use your car.By incorporating some common sense precautions, you can help prevent auto theft before it happens to you!

Almost one in six thefts reported involve theft from an automobile, be it parts or accessories.

HOW ?

Park in well-lighted areas, especially at shopping malls. More than two thirds of all autos  thefts occur at night.
Park with your front tires turned into the curb and the emergency brake on to make towing difficult.
Keep your license and registration in your wallet, not in the glove compartment. Never leave any identifying information in your car.
When at home, lock your car in the garage. If you do not have a garage, back the car into the driveway and lock all the doors. The majority of all auto thefts occur in residential areas.
Always lock your car and take your keys with you.
Take all valuables with you, or hide them from plain sight inside your vehicle.
Never leave your keys in the ignition and walk away from your vehicle, even if you are running an errand for a minute. It only takes a few seconds for someone to climb in and drive away.
Always park in well-lit areas and try to park near open businesses.
When parking in a public garage or an attended lot, leave only your ignition key with the attendant.
When parking at home, back your car into your driveway, so neighbors can see the front of your car. This may make a potential car thief think twice about hot wiring your car in plain view.
If you have a car stereo or music system detach it from the car.
When going out of town, if possible, remove the distributor coil wire from under the hood.
