Top
Gear September 2005, has test driven the new Santro
Xing eRLX. Top Gear is of the opinion that a few small, individually
inconsequential changes made, can alter the looks and performance of a whole
car! And Hyundai has done just that, to the eRLX. This better version of
the previous Santro has not increased prices, which is definitely a smart
move. Read below to find out more on the Santro eRLX. PROS:
1. The Santro
eRLX is all about a host of new technology. Thankfully, it isn’t
all just names, but also put to good use. For instance, the Rotary Head
Intelligent Valve Actuator actually decreases the load on the engine by
distributing some of it with the camshaft. This increases efficiency of
the whole unit.
2. Basically,
this baby from the Hyundai Santro family is a new and improved version
of its predecessors.
3. The torque on this car has increased from 94.17 to 96.13Nm, which is
a considerable leap that also changes the drivability of the car.
4. The interiors of the car have undergone some slight change here and
there. The dials and buttons have changed positions, but nothing major
has been moved around. However, the armrests at the door are longer, better
looking and well-placed, making them extremely comfortable.
5. The eRLX has lived upto the expectations everyone has from a Santro,
extremely comfortable rear space. Three passengers can travel without
any hassles and still manage to stretch.
6. Inspite of increased efficiency of the car and a newer model, the prices
have not been hiked.
CONS:
1. No change
has been made in the leg room of the driver. The driver’s seat still
remains cramped and a bit uncomfortable.
2. The car lacks a parcel tray in the low-end versions.
3. With the 13 / 20 rating, this Santro can definitely do better.
