In
its August 2006 issue, Autocar India have test driven the new Chevrolet
SRV. Their detailed road test claims that this hatchback is certainly
stylish and younger looking than the Chevrolet
Optra, although there are a certain aspects to it that are disappointing.
Perhaps that explains Autocar India’s 6/10 rating for the SRV,
sort of proving that General Motors have to work a little harder to
spruce up this baby.
Here’s what Autocar India have to say about the new Chevrolet
SRV:
PROS:
1. Superior styling
and finesse, “oomph” factor undeniably present.
2. Tastefully designed rear end, giving the car a ‘sporty’
look. Tail lights are especially attractive.
3. Wheel arches contain smart alloys.
4. Superior Macpherson strut suspension; passengers can enjoy a smooth
ride even on the bumpiest of roads.
5. Excellent quality double-DIN Alpine player that supports CDs, cassettes
and MP3s alike. A little complicated at first, but unbeatable once you
make your way around it.
6. Very comfortable seating with the driver’s seat possessing
convenient lower back support system with an option for adjustable height.
7. Boot comfortable enough to place two full size suitcases upright.
8. Breaks work perfectly well.
CONS:
1.
Interiors of the car do not match the classy exteriors. Also, overall
use of dull plastic and shiny look renders a slightly cheap look to
the car.
2. Seemingly, safety measures have been compromised upon for economy.
For instance, there is only one airbag (on the driver’s side),
and no anti-lock breaks system (ABS).
3. Five speed manual gearbox is the car’s Achilles’ Heel.
It definitely does not match the 100 bhp it claims to possess.
4. Not very great value for money considering the price (7.92 lakh).
5. The steering wheel needs more accuracy and directness expected from
a car with such a sporty image.
6. All in all, driving experience lacks thrill and fun.
