Autocar
India’s November 2006 issue has featured a first drive of the Audi
Q7. And they seem impressed, but not overwhelmingly so. That’s
reasonable, considering that the Audi could have been much better considering
the price the buyer has to cough up. However, a detailed Roadtest is what
it will take to take a proper judgment on this rather large automobile.
For now, here’s a sneak peek.
PROS:
1. Like the dictum ‘Godzilla’ put forward,
size does matter. Same is in the case of the Audi Q7. Almost five metres
long and two metres wide, the Q7 can’t help but be intimidating.
And the other small cars next to the Audi in the maddening traffic will
meekly make their way to let it pass - its that daunting.
2. It cannot be denied that the Q7 is pretty good-looking. The front elevation
of this SUV consists of a one-piece grille and slick high-mounted headlamps.
The design is sure, elegant and elite, overall.
3. The interiors of the Audi Q7 are spectacular. Aesthetically, it has
been done up very well in leather, plastic and chrome in the best possible
quality. More than the individual aspect the perfect amalgamation of all
the facets is what makes the insides of the SUV impeccable.
4. The front seats of the Q7 are nothing short of perfection. Right from
the best riding position to day-long comfort, there is nothing that the
Q7 does not lack. Rear seat passengers too are comfortable in the sense
of the term, and the extra air-con unit for passengers is very thoughtful,
indeed.
5. The steering wheel is neat and obedient. It gives the driver the much
needed sense of confidence, and strongly leads the car to the destination.
6. The brakes make it easier to drive the car like there’s no tomorrow.
Coupled with the steering, they make it easier to swerve around corners
with loads of power.
7. To sum up, this Audi offers an enjoyable riding experience, and the
more you speed, the smaller it feels. Thankfully, the size is not a hindrance
to the driver, and the car feels shrunk with all the driving.
