 Welcome aboard Mr. Sanjay Dutt’s fully customized luxury Volvo, redesigned by Dilip Chabhria, the ultimate name in car design makeovers. The engine and mechanicals remain untouched but that’s about all that remains of the bus that rolled out of the Volvo plant. AutoCar (Feb. ’09) takes a closer look…
The first thing that strikes you is the opulence of the interior; the finest rich-feel Napa leather, teak wood accents and plush thick carpet. Top of SD’s wishlist was a bar. And so it gets the commanding centre-stage in the bus. It’s a fully equipped, fully automated, full-service bar. Special cut-outs for cutlery and crockery ensure that there is no rattling when the bus is on the move. The bar also houses a microwave, a refrigerator and a coffee maker. All these features are slickly hidden away and it’s not just the small items that are hidden away. The entire makeup area complete with mirror and chair disappear under the floor at the flick of a wrist. It’s this talent that gives the interiors uncluttered sweeping lines.
But it’s the sophisticated lighting system that really adds to the ambience. DC Design calls it Mood Lighting and has five pre-programmed zones – welcome, relax, meeting, party and full-on.
The Volvo boasts of two full HD televisions – a 52 inch and a 40 inch complete with two satellite connections. A high-end Bose home theatre system does the job of turning the Volvo into a mini-theatre. Then there are gaming consoles too. On a mores serious note is the office connectivity. There’s a computer with Internet access, the usual office tools like a fax, printer and even a teleconferencing facility.
So whether Mr. Dutt is in the mood to play or work, he has everything he needs at his fingertips.
