The Cayenne is one SUV that brought Porsche a fortune. What makes it tick? OverDrive (Aug. ’09) takes a look...
Whooshing along the something the Cayenne does remarkably well. In the normal setting, ride quality is extremely good though somehow the steering feel doesn’t fade out. At the same time when confronted with sweepers, it pulls a neat trick by settling around it in a manner that is most impressively flat. Also having that massive V8 under the hood obviously helps and as it is with most Porsche engines, it is not completely silent. The S has a 4806cc V8 packed to full with technology and makes a heady 500Nm from 3500rpm.
Yes, a PDK twin clutch equipped Cayenne would be noticeably better but there’s nothing to shake a stick at. This 2.2-tonne behemoth can hit 250kmph, passing 100kmph in 6.8 seconds. So it’s no wonder that in India, the S is the most popular Cayenne – starting at Rs. 79 lakh and going up to Rs. 92 lakh. The interior layout does look old but the sense of luxury, high quality and equipment prevail.
