The new Skoda Superb is a luxury car that ticks all the must-have boxes, on a must-do drive. It’s cleared acceleration tests, drivability tests, engine flexibility tests, city start/stop tests, braking tests, fuel economy tests etcetera…but when AutoCar (April ’09) got an opportunity to drive it all the way to the Ananda spa in the Himalaya’s – it was a ride just not to be missed…
The team took a start from Dehradun taking a circuitous 160km detour to the spa. This turned out to be like a sort of mountain road buffet. There were roads whose surface had been broken in parts by snow, steep drop-offs, perfectly lined and paved sections and other roads that dipped and rose like a roller-coaster. Totally absent from this road medley was a straight piece of tarmac….
Displaying the perfect balance of a jazz ballet dancer, a quick steering and a motor that loves to be spun faster and harder, the Superb made for the perfect companion. Windows slightly wound down, the sunroof open and the DSG gearbox in manual mode, flying the Superb along the road was an absolute pleasure. Corner after corner, apex after apex, the Superb encouraged the Autocar team (April ’09) into going faster and faster. Stable brakes, accurate steering, grippy tyres and a fantastic chassis made the ride an unforgettable one.
At Rs. 18.8 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Superb is also twice the car the price suggests. Just make sure you get yours while you can still get it at this price recommends AutoCar (April ’09).
