OUTLANDER |
AUTOCAR
INDIA readers would have noticed the spurt of Mitsubishi features
in our pages of late.
First it was the Lancer Cedia, then a re-worked and less-expensive
Pajero, and a first drive of the Mitsubishi Montero this month.
Further to this, the HM-Mitsubishi combine is to arm itself
with the Outlander.
This will be Mitsubishi’s entry-level sports utility
vehicle that will wage battle against the Honda
CR-V and the Hyundai Tucson.
The SUV looks urban-chic and manages to put on just the right
amount of muscle and sinew; great for an urban sport-utility.
This Mitsubishi will house a 2.4-litre petrol engine good
enough for 158bhp. 21.9kgm of torque should mean it will be
quick off the mark.
We expect the company to offer a diesel option too.

LANCER CEDIA |
THERE
WAS A time when the Mitsubishi Lancer held its own against
the Honda City, a time when its considerable strengths made
Indian customers choose it over the Honda. But the Lancer
lost momentum and the City surged ahead.
With the attractive new Cedia, HM Mitsubishi hopes to redress
the balance. A car that stays true to the Lancer’s basic
tenet of a smooth, refined performance mated to top-class
handling and driving pleasure, the Cedia is directed at the
owner who like to drive. 125bhp from a 2.0-litre motor, a
slick gearbox, good brakes and a fine steering. It may be
a half-size down on the competition, but it has strengths
they don’t possess.

CEFIRO |
WITH
ITS SMOOTH, confident lines and its Infiniti luxury car identity
the Nissan Cefiro is all set to make a play for the luxury
car pie. Plush and comfortable, it carries Nissan’s
blend of Japanese mechanical sophistication along with a heightened
sense of style and build quality. A perfect combination for
Indian luxury car buyers, the Cefiro will initially be launched
with a smooth and torquey 3.5 litre V6 motor with a Tiptronic
gearbox. Like the skin, the interiors are very stylish, possessing
a sparse Japanese finish that would not look out of place
in a bamboo hut. Ride quality is plush, as are the seats and
there is more than sufficient legroom. Nissan will price the
V6 model somewhere in between the Merc C- and E-class.
