Position yourself.
In order to control your vehicle
properly, your body must be in the right position. A few suggestions
for the best way to ride.
Sit
close enough to the handlebars so you can reach them with
your arms slightly bent. Bending your arms allows you to turn
the bike without having to stretch.
Hold
the hand grips firmly so you won't lose your grip if you hit
a bump and the motorcycle bounces.
The
best position to start with is your wrists down. This prevents
you from accidentally using too much throttle, especially
if you need to grab the front brake suddenly.
Press
your knees firmly against the gas tank. This will help you
keep your balance when you turn.
Keep
your feet firmly on the foot pegs. A firm footing helps you
maintain balance. Dragging your foot along the ground is a
bad idea. If your foot catches on something, you could be
injured and/or lose control of the motorcycle.
Always
keep your feet near the controls. This lets you use the controls
quickly if you have to. Keep your toes up. If you let them
drop down, they may get caught between the road and the foot
peg.
Keep
your body fairly erect. This will enable you to use your arms
to steer the motorcycle rather than to hold yourself up.
