Dr.Binoy Thomas MD's query :Why is the rear indicator lights of American cars red?
Dr. Pasricha Answers : I have not come across anywhere in the world the use of red indicator lights. Perhaps you might have mixed up with the red taillights or possible a particular driver might have wrongly used the red indicator lights.

Jeetendra Gupte's query :Sir, We often find motorists not respecting signals & pedestrian crossings. One classic example is the signal outside Chembur Police Station. You will find around 70-80% people jumping signals. Why isn't the Police doing anything for this menace. I can give you numberous instances like this. Will the Traffic Police take any action???
Dr. Pasricha Answers : We have yet to imbibe traffic culture, which gives constant education and mass campaigns. Of course, enforcement authorities have to be rigid. Unfortunately the maximum fine for jumping signal is Rs.100/- only.

Abhijit Dixit's query :Hi, We recently bought a new Maruthi Wagon-R. When I asked the dealer about getting a PUC certificate, he said that since it has a MPFI engine, it does not require a PUC certificate. I searched on the web regarding any government document in this matter but could not find one. Could you elaborate on this matter ? Regards, Abhijit
Dr. Pasricha Answers : Every vehicle, whether Euro-1, Euro-2 or Euro-3 compliant has to be subjected to PUC test after one year of its first registration. For the first one year it does not require a PUC certificate. Thereafter, it is to be obtained every six months with out fail. You must keep the PUC certificate in original while driving. The penalty for violation of this is Rs.1,000 for the first time and Rs.2000 for the subsequent offence.

Suresh Cordo's query :We are being harrased by an RTO PUC control check point at Mahalaxmi Race Course. We had our Mahindra Armada checked at Standard Auto Service (Colaba) where it passed the test.Later we rechecked it at Mahalxmi (opp. Famous Studio) and the PUC was again found to within the stipulated limits. Not satisfied we then also had it checked at the Worli petrol pump and again the emmision levels were found to be normal. We found that all the readings were different at the various petrol pumps even though they were all taken on the same day within a a couple of hours of each other. Much to our surprised we were stopped once again by the PUC van at Mahalaxmi and their reading showed us at above the limit. We lodged a complaint with the RTO office at Tardeo protesting against the fine of Rs. 1000/=. Please advice as to which Petrol Pump has the right equipment that matches the calibration used by the RTO. Please help!! Warm regards, Suresh.
Dr. Pasricha Answers : You should bring this complaint to the personal notice of Mr. V. M. Lal, Transport Commissioner, Bandra, Mumbai (Phone: 6516336). I am sure that he will take necessary enquiry and action on this.

RAHUL KAPUR's query :why dont traffic police get tough with rickshaws and taxis the always double park blocking traffic park at corners stop immediately never give indicators etc drive like maniacs and when cars owners double park or park a no parking zones they are immediately towed where as these rickshaws and taxis park there happily .the cops dont even tell them anything why such double standards
Dr. Pasricha Answers : The common perspective is not factual. The police cops take stern action against the Cabbies. However, as they are moving on the road or park on the road, they give the wrong impression.

AMIT's query :Dear sir, my matiz car was recently towed by the traffic department. when i went to take my car back i found the front bumper damaged at almost 6 places. the officials there claimed that it was the chain used to tow the vehicles that causes the damage and since fibre glass bumpers are prone to damage it is'nt their fault. in fact they flatly refused to take responsiblity. please tell me what action can i take against the traffic department Thanks
Dr. Pasricha Answers : It is sad that your car was damaged by towing. The traffic police should have taken utmost precaution. You should write to the Joint C.P. Traffic, Traffic H. Quarters, Worli, Mumbai 400 025 with a specific complaint giving all the details.

AMOGH KALE's query :As per your reply,LPG is legal to be used in vehicles hence do clear my following doubts also. 1.Has Maharastra Govt.legalised it? 2.Does the usage of LPG damage the engine? 3.Which kind of cylinder is to be used?(Domestic or Commercial or of a Private Company) 4.Which kit will u reccomend to be installed? 5.What will be the approximate cost incurred? Please reply at the earliest.Thanks.
Dr. Pasricha Answers : I have never said anywhere that the LPG is legal to use in vehicles. The use of LPG as an automobile gas still is under active consideration of the Government of India.

VINAY PANDYA's query :Dear sir , Recently I was fined by the Traffic police for waitng in the No Parking Zone on Pickett Road. There were 2 more drivers sitting in thier vehicle waiting for their owners to come. The traffic police Mr.Shaikh warned the other drivers and asked them to leave. When he approached me he demand my license & fined me Rs.100. Is the law not same for all ? It is often noticed that policemen harass only private vehicle owners who can pay the fine. Please explain.
Dr. Pasricha Answers : I agree that the law is the same for every citizen. I do not know the circumstances under which this incident took place. I hope, You did not argue with the traffic Corp and were cooperative. If you have any grievance, you can approach Joint C.P., Traffic, Traffic H.Q., Worli, Mumbai 400 025.

RAHUL GUPTA's query :Sir, I wish to start a mobile workshop on wheels in the city of Mumbai using a Tata 407 vehicle, what all permissions will I need from the perspective of RTO, Traffic Police and any other regulatory authorities? Request your guidance.
Dr. Pasricha Answers : You are not likely to get permission for running a mobile workshop. There is no harm in approaching your RTO. You may like to get in touch with WIAA and they would like to utilize your services. If all private persons are permitted to run mobile workshops the repair garages will pollute our roads.
