query :I have a Maruti 800 which was stolen and recovered. Since there is a criminal case registered against the the criminals, I cannot the sell the car. Can I rent this car out to a travel agency till such time the case is resolved? Does Indiacar.com have any list of such travel agencies in Bangalre ? Please revert on my queries asap. Answers : Till the disposal of the case you are restricted from selling the car in question. However, there is no ban on its use whether for personal or commercial purpose. You may however, inform the concerned police station for their records with an assurance that you will produce the car as and when required.

My father purchased a Maruti 800 car in 1986 & got it registered in Pen Dist. Raigad, State Maharashtra, as he was working & residing there. He has paid lifetime Tax on it. Now after his retirement he is residing in Borivali (Mumbai-400091). He has decide to pay the BMC Octroi tax as the car is in Borivali (The last date to pay BMC Octroi without fine, declared by BMC is 30 June 2001.) Does he require to change the registration number, (From RTO Pen Maharashtra to RTO Andheri Maharashtra) as he is in the same state i.e. Maharashtra? Expecting an early reply.

Answers : Since your father is going to remain in Maharashtra, there is no need of changing the registration number. However, for its use in Mumbai City, octroi will be payable but it will be very nominal since it is a very old car.

Answers : The compensation for the loss / damage to any vehicle is decided as per certain norms by the concerned insurance company. It will also depend upon the value of the vehicle.

query :In reference to your article in Mid Day that parking on the footpaths is an offence, is this law not for people like Amitabh Bachchan who parks his cars on the footpath outside both his houses causing paoblems to padestrians. As a tax paying citizen I would like to know why are laws broken so easily by the influential with full support of the police

Answers : I agree with you that Laws are the same for everyone. I am not aware of Mr. Amitabh Bachhan using footpaths for his car parking. You will be with in your right to make complaint with the traffic police.

Answers : You can get an international driving license for a period of one year from your R.T.O.. You will be required to produce attested xerox copy of your passport and it should be valid for at least six months, original driving license valid for minimum one more year and three copies of latest passport size photographs.

Answers : There were some administrative problems on finalization of tender and that delayed the entire matter. All those problems have been resolved and the laminated smart card will be made operative very shortly.

Answers : You can convert your vehicle into Diesel Engine only after obtaining permission from your R.T.O., with whom your vehicle is registered. Generally, permission is granted.

i wanted to ask you whether controlling the vehicular traffic is the only duty of a traffic constable. Isn't controlling or stopping people crossing roads at all wrong places and also at all wrong times. Is there any rule existing for pedestrians?

Answers : I do agree that the traffic cops are supposed to not only manage the vehicle traffic but also the pedestrian traffic. Unfortunately in countries like ours, most people are not conscious of road safety and the traffic corps are out numbered. Traffic cops do however help children, old and infant. When they are not very busy in controlling vehicle traffic, they do help pedestrians as well.

I had often thought to ask you about my queries though, I was unable to do so.
Q1. Most of the streets and pedestrian footpaths in Mumbai are encroached and occupied by the Hawkers. Hence, the Pedestrians walk on the roads. When any mishap occurs the poor vehicle driver is bashed or penalised by yuor dept. Upon questioning the Traffic police they say that the hawkers is not their problem and is looked in by the BMC. Dont you think that the Traffic dept is formed to control for smoother traffic anywhere, especially when they can pick up parked vehicles why cant they force the Hawkers out to organise a safe pedestrian footpath avoiding mishaps and ending traffic jams. People walking on roads yell and abuse at the vehicle drivers when Honked. The mob get rough many times. What is your dept doing?
Q2. Purchasing a new motor vehicle is another undiscovered scam by the Dealers and RTO registration authorities.
I have been fighting for this cause with Dealers about the excess hidden registration Charges they take without notice from a customer. on asking they claim that the RTO staff demands this amount for faster registration. Please Comment. And also what steps can you ensure to the consumers who are looted in the day light by these sophiscated THUGS!
