SANJAY JAIN's query :I have recently shifted from Delhi to Mumbai & planning to stay in Mumbai for less than a year. Now I am planning to Buy a new car in my company name in Mumbai but the rate difference(because of Octari,Company Registration charges, sales tax etc.) is huge between Mumbai & Delhi. If I buy a car in Mumbai.. can & register the same in company name.. will I get the refund after I will again shifted to Delhi within a year or shall I buy a car in Delhi & shift the same to Mumbai..Please suggest.
Dr. Pasricha Answers : Since registration charges are concerned, which is not very high, you are not entitled to get refund. However, in respect of the Road Tax about 2/3 of the tax you have paid in the co. name will be refunded for the unused period, as per their formula.

NISHANT's query :Hi, I'm currently staying in Bangalore. I'm planning to buy a car in DELHI and bring it to Bangalore. The car has 6 months wait period in Bangalore. Now the delhi dealer is telling me that he'll deliver the car in Delhi with temporary registartion. I'll have to pay the exshowroom price+ insurance + temp registration. Then I can bring the car to Bangalore and pay the road registration fee here. Is it OK to do this. Will I have to pay any sales tax in karnataka or any other fee other than the road tax? Is there anything I should ask the Delhi dealer and clarify before buying?
Dr. Pasricha Answers : The dealer is right. Sales tax is applicable in most of states including Karnataka. You will also have to pay Octroi tax and transportation expenses to bring the vehicles from Delhi to Bangalore

KUSHAN DASGUPTA's query :Hi, I have purchased and registered my car in Gurgaon, Haryana, and now I am relocating to Bangalore. Can you pls. let me know the following - 1. How long can I drive my car in Bangalore without paying any new road tax in Karnataka? 2. How long can I continue to drive in Karnataka with my Haryana registration? 2. To pay the road tax in Karnataka, do I need to obtain NOC from Gurgaon RTO? 3. What are the papers I need to register my car again in Karnataka?
Dr. Pasricha Answers : You can drive your vehicle in Bangalore up to one year but after three months you have to pay some nominal road tax in Karnataka. If you are going to stay in Bangalore for more than one year you will have to re-register your vehicle in Karnataka for which you require NOC from your old RTO in Gurgaon. You will have to physically show your vehicle alongwith NOC, RC Book, Road Tax, Insurance and PUC to the new RTO. You have to pay Life Time Tax in Karnataka and later can seek refund from RTO Gurgaon for the unused period
