A. BALAN's query :Dr Saab - I had sold my car to an agency. While the car was in their custody, it met with an accident before changing the ownership in their name. Under the circumstances, can they claim the insurance from our insurance acount? Please let me know your opinion in this matter at the earliest - Rgds
Dr. Pasricha Answers : The insurance amount is payable only to the person/company in whose name the car was registered on the day of the accident.

 
SOURAV's query :Hi Dr. Pasricha, I am currently based in bangalore and have purchased a Maruti car last year which is registered in Bangalore and Life Tax has been paid. I will be permanently moving to Hyderabad and as I know, I had to seek refund of Life tax at Bangalore but few of my collegeas have suggested that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a return on Life Tax from Bangalore RTO. Kindly suggest me the steps and procedures that needs to be taken to seek the refund of Life tax from Bangalore RTO. Thanks
Dr. Pasricha Answers : You can get refund from your old R.T.O. but only after paying the Road Tax in Hyderabad. The State Government has prescribed some formula for calculating the refund amount

 
BHUVNENDRA SAXENA's query :Hi, I am going to Noida from bangalore as I have changed my job. I have a new ALTO LX( purchased 2 months back). I want to know what is the procedure to transfer the car to Noida, so that I would face no problem. Thanks,
Dr. Pasricha Answers : You should obtain N.O.C. from your R.T.O. in Bangalore end within 90 days approach the R.T.O. in Noida for re-registration of the vehicle. You will have to physically present your vehicle along with documents in originals like the Registration Certificate, Insurance Certificate, Tax Receipt and P.U.C. Certificate. You will have to pay the Road tax again as is applicable in Noida and later claim refund from your R.T.O. in Bangalore

 
BIJU GS's query :sir i am planning to take my car [kerala reg ] from kerala to hyderabad for a period of time. so i would like to know what all formalities i have to take in consideration before taking my car to hyderabad ..i.e mainly regarding NOC and what will be expense incured for the same regards biju
Dr. Pasricha Answers : You should obtain N.O.C. from your R.T.O. in Kerala and within 90 days approach the R.T.O. in Hyderabad for re-registration of the vehicle. You will have to physically present your vehicle along with documents in originals like the Registration Certificate, Insurance Certificate, Tax Receipt and P.U.C. Certificate. You will have to pay the Road tax again as is applicable in Hyderabad and later claim refund from your R.T.O. in Kerala.

 
PARAG P. SINKAR's query :Hello Sir, At present, I am staying in Chennai. I am in the process of transferring to Poona. I own Tata Indigo (Jan 2005 model) which is registered in Tamilnadu. Can you please tell me what would be the components that I need to pay to Pune, RTO for registering the vehicle in Poona.
Dr. Pasricha Answers : While registering your vehicle with R.T.O. at Pune, you will have to pay Life Time Road Tax and some registration fee, which is nominal. You can later claim the refund of the Road Tax from your R.T.O. in Chennai, as per the formula prescribed by the Tamil Nadu Govt. You will also have to pay Octroi, as per the market value of the vehicle.

 
K NAVEEN CHANDER's query :sir, i have driving licence issued from delhi and at present settled in mumbai. Can i get IDP from mumbai my driving licence & address on the passport are diffrent. what is the procedure for getting the IDP.
Dr. Pasricha Answers : Since the addresses appearing in your driving licence and that in your passport are different, you are not entitled to IDP.

 
PHANI KARTHIK's query :I need to get NOC for my two wheeler to transfer it to Andhra Pradesh. I have every thing, PUC, RC , Insurance, but I don't want to do it through an agent, Can you tell me the procedure and required forms to do that?
Dr. Pasricha Answers : It is not necessary to re-register your vehicle through an agent alone. You can obtain the requisite forms from the R.T.O. in Andhra Pradesh and fill them up. You will have to obtain N.O.C. from your present R.T.O. and then physically present your vehicle along with documents in originals like the Registration Certificate, Insurance Certificate, Tax Receipt and P.U.C. Certificate.

 
PALLAVI SANGHI's query :I Purchased a car in Chennai,paid Lifetax,now I am getting transferred to Delhi,do i have to pay again life tax in Delhi also or simply obtain NOC and re-register at delhi.
Dr. Pasricha Answers : For re-registration of your vehicle outside Tamil Nadu, you have to pay lifetime tax again. However, after payment, you can approach your R.T.O. in Chennai who will reimburse some amount from the already paid tax, as per the State Government rules.

 
VINEET MOHAN GHILDYAL's query :I am working with ONGC. On transfer, I have brought my car from Gujarat to Mumbai. Do I need to pay octroi, road tax and need to change my registration no. here in Mumbai.If so, pl advise the formalities required
Dr. Pasricha Answers : If you are going to use your car outside Gujarat for a period exceeding one year, you have to re-register it. Naturally, you will have to pay road tax, octroi, tax, etc. However, after paying the road tax in Mumbai, you can claim reimbursement from your R.T.O. in Gujarat.

 
SMITA VIJAYAKUMAR's query :I and my dad have both lost our licenses. The chance of retrieving the original is bleak. We have no photocopy of the original license. I would like to know how we should approach this problem. Thanks!
Dr. Pasricha Answers : Since you have no details of the original license, I am afraid you will have to obtain learner licence once again, and appear for the driving test after 30 mandatory days to get a new licence.
