GAJANAN's query :Sir, I am contemplating buying a used car 1998 registered in Gujrat.I will be using it in Thane.HOw much would be road tax i need to pay here in Thane

PHANI KIRAN's query :I have purchased a bike on october 2nd 2003 in AP and registered there itself. Brought it to chennai in July 2004. I have paid road tax. To get Tamilnadu registration number, officials are asking me to pay Entry tax bcoz i brought bike into tamilnadu before its 1yr of purchase. Is it necessary to pay entry tax? If there is any rule just give me the details. Thanks in advance.
Dr. Pasricha Answers : Entry Tax is applicable to all vehicles whose age is less than 15 months. If you had purchased your vehicle in October 2003 in Andhra Pradesh and brought to Chennai in July 2004, it was only 9 months old then. Therefore, the Entry Tax was applicable and the R.T.O. is right in claiming it.
