TONY JACOB JOSEPH's
query :Hello Dr.,
I have moved from Chennai to Bangalore. I had bought a Santro from Chennai in Dec 2005, Now if I need to drive the car in Bangalore what are the formalities that I would need to undergo. I just heard from some sources in the RTO that it would cost me close to a lakh to do the complete tranfer. Is that true? what are the other options? Spending so huge an amount after paying Life tax (around 30K) and again paying the same seems to be mind boggling. thanks, Tony

Answers : If you take your car to Bangalore after March 2007, you will not have to pay the entry tax. In that case, you will have to pay only for octroi and lifetime road tax as admissible in Karnataka State. You can ther, get refund of the tax from your old R.T.O. in Chennai. As per law, if you are going to be in Bangalore for a period exceeding one year, you will have to re-register your vehicle.

Answers : You can drive your Karnataka registered car in Delhi for a period upto one year. For re-registration, you should obtain N.O.C. from the R.T.O. in Bangalore and then produce the vehicle with all its documents in original, as well as residence proof in Delhi to the R.T.O. in Delhi. You will have to pay road tax in Delhi again but you will be entitled to refund from your R.T.O. in Bangalore. The documents include R.C. book, taxation and insurance certificates and P.U.C. certificate. You will have to pay octroi tax as admissible in Delhi.

query :I have my license for 4 wheeler (LMV) from Mysore (Karnataka). The license states that my address is same as that of the driving school in Mysore through whom I went for the purpose of obtaining the license. And my passport shows my permanent address as Bellary (Karnataka). Is it going to be a problem for me to obtain an International Driving permit (IDP) given that the addresses in license and passport are different?

Dr. Pasricha
Answers : You must have the same address in your driving licence as well as in the passport if you want to obtain an IDP.

NIPUN GUPTA's
query :Hello Sir,
I have a problem related to registration of my vehicle.
I transferred my car from Delhi to Bangalore in March 2004 after obtaining NOC from RTO Delhi. I applied for registration of my car in Karnataka and paid the LTT here. The Bangalore RTO changed the address in the registration certificate to my bangalore address but refused to grant karnataka registration number citing incomplete information in banker's NOC. Now I need to return to Delhi after using my vehicle for 2 years in bangalore with delhi registration number.
I would like to know from you on what should I do now. Do I need to take an NOC from Bangalore or go to delhi and just apply for cancellation of the NOC they had issued 2 years ago. How can I get a refund of the LTT I have paid in Bangalore ?
I would really appreciate your help in this matter.
