| Mr.
S. K. Gupta, known to his Friends and Colleagues as SKG, is an M.E. from
the famous Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He passed out with 'Distinction'
in High Voltage Engineering during the year 1963. Prior to that, he was
a meritorious student all the way, from High School to B.E.(Hons) in Electrical/Power
Engineering. He did his 'Finishing School' from the well-known Scindia School,
Gwalior.
His love
affair with Cars really started when he was only 7-years old, soon after
the family got its first Car, an imported (CBU) 'Austin-8' in 1948. By
the time he was ten, he could manually crank this machine, start it and
generally 'keep it warm' while his father was away on an extended postings,
upon his instructions! Three cheers to his Dad (now 89!) for entrusting
such a 'dangerous responsibility' to a kid as young as 10!!
During the
last 35-years, SKG has either owned or helped maintain practically all
makes of Indian Cars, including the present generation 'mpfi' ones. For
starters, he owned and maintained one of the Country's first Mopeds, a
'Vicky/50cc' followed by a 'Jawa/250cc'. During his heydays he even got
some 'over speeding' tickets riding his Jawa in the mid sixties, at the
hands of the then ever vigilant Madras Traffic Police!
He excelled
all the way in his chosen profession of Power Systems Control Engineering,
starting as a Graduate Apprentice in 1963 with an MNC giant like 'English
Electric' (now Alstom) and rising to be one of the All India Divisional
Managers by 1980. By 1984, he switched tracks to eventually become VP
(Projects) of a Rs: 200 crore green field Cement Plant, one of the first
of its kind then in the Country. By 1992 he opted to 'Retire', after the
Cement Plant successfully went on stream, to pursue the passions of his
life - Domestic Appliances and Cars.
SKG has 'Essayed'
several Automobile related Articles, which Cybersteering hopes to post
one by one on its Web pages in near future. Amongst some other advisory
assignments in the Auto-Servicing sector, he is also the present 'Autoguru'
of Cybersteering.
